Forest Service Informs Denver Water They Need Additional Analysis
  • Facebook

In an exciting turn of events the Forest Service has decided that Denver Water needs to supply them with more information to cover the water utility's ever changing plans around precisely what they need to do to expand Gross Reservoir. In this case the focus is on the location of Denver Water's quarry site. Check out the full story from The Colorado Sun.

The Forest Service also expressed frustration with Denver Water's "expedited requests for previously unplanned timber removal areas for this project, including a recent rush request for new timber removal areas that were not accounted for in the Final Tree Removal Plan dated June 7, 2021."

To resolve that complaint the Forest Service has "requested at least a three-year plan for the previously authorized activities at the reservoir expansion project site that require agency review" in addition to the requirement for additional analysis related to the quarry location.

“The construction plan for the Gross Dam expansion appears to have been somewhat half-baked,” said Gary Wockner of Save The Colorado. “If Denver Water could not properly estimate how much rock material they needed to build a massive new dam, what other mistakes have they made?” Read the full press release.
